Resource centre providing
information on professional life

The Documentation Centre is a service organised
by two teacher-librarians who provide:

  • A personal welcome for users (pupils, teachers, school staff). Pupils can visit the I.D.C. independently and may ask the research assistants for assistance to guide them in their research or in using the results of their research (methodological advice).

Exhibition of BTS Communications projects

  • An educational duty to train pupils on how to use information sources, master research strategies and conduct a critical analysis of sources (especially those taken from the Internet). This training is done in collaboration with subject teachers in the framework of jointly prepared sessions.

  • An entrance hall used as a temporary exhibition centre to present different topics (the press, Europe, fair trade…) and to exhibit pupils' work.

  • The teacher-librarians also collaborate on several projects initiated in the school: European Week, Press Week, Etonnants Voyageurs "(Amazing Travellers") Festival, European Youth Parliament, Calliope competition, Unesco Club…

The I.D.C is open continuously
Monday to Thursday
from 8.15am to 6pm and
Friday to 5pm

.

Pupils working in the I.D.C.

  • In the material organisation of the I.D.C and the content of the training it provides, the emphasis is placed on developing familiarity with the resources and methods used in the careers which the pupils may decide to follow.

Innovative technologies to benefit
teachers and pupils alike

  • The librarians manage the I.D.C. (purchases, processing, provision of documents) and construct a database which registers all the documents in the I.D.C.

At Jeanne d’Arc, this database has a special feature: it can be accessed from any computer in the school, via the lycée's Intranet. Hence it is possible to look up documents even if the I.D.C. is full. Another special feature of the database is that it is linked to an electronic document management system, making it possible to view some documents directly on-screen.
